Barbara van de Sande
Years of volunteering as a caregiver for disabled children ignited Barbara's desire for helping people by improving the product that they use. For that reason, she chose to study Industrial Design Engineering at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Barbara's interest for healthcare made her focus on human centred design in her BSc, further expanding her medical knowledge with a MSc in Biomedical Product Design. Having the liberty to compose her own Master Degree, Barbara combined Innovation & Design with Biomedical Engineering courses. Finalising her university career at the University Medical Centre in Utrecht designing a more patient friendly way of correcting leg length discrepancies. After graduating, Barbara found her way to IDE, motivated by her dream of helping people through design every day. Although Barbara chose an engineering degree over music school she still enjoys playing music in her downtime. Furthermore she's passionate about rowing, cycling, travelling and baking.
"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools"
